چکیده

Aquaculture activities cannot be separated from obstacles that can lead to failure of aquaculture, including the presence microplastics. Microplastic polystyrene (styrofoam) is a type plastic commonly found in aquatic organisms (35%). Microplastics fish cause hormonal disturbances and high vacuolation gonads which apoptosis gonadal cells. This study aimed determine effect microplastics exposure on catfish (Clarias gariepinus) feed histology male catfish. The research design used an experimental method with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was divided into four treatments three replications, namely 3% rate A (5% microplastics), B (10% C (15% K (0% microplastics). treatment given by mixing it commercial for 30 days. results showed microplastic had significant 15th 30th days Gonad Maturity Level (GML) Gonado Somatic Index (GSI) (C. A, compared controls (K). Treatment (Microplastics 15%) lowest GML GSI values, while 0%) highest values. Treatments B, experienced changes delays development cell structure, control (K) developed well. presumably because nutritional needs were more fulfilled than exposed

Ontogeny of Swimming Movements in the Catfish Clarias gariepinus

The swimming movements of C. gariepinus larvae were recorded with a high-speed camera (400, 500 and 800 fps) from 0 to 336 hours post-hatching. Movements of adult fish were also recorded to provide information on the last developmental stage. Seven landmarks positioned on the fish midline were used during tail beating to determine various parameters during ontogeny and, on the basis of these pa...

Sex steroids and the initiation of puberty in male African catfish ( Clarias gariepinus).

The effects of sex steroids on spermatogenesis and testicular androgen secretion were studied in juvenile (spermatogonia present in testes) African catfish. Fish were implanted with Silastic pellets containing 11-ketotestosterone (KT), 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione (OHA), androstenetrione (OA), androstenedione (A), testosterone (T), 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT), or estradiol-17β (E2). Control grou...

Histopathological Effects of Glyphosate on Juvenile African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus)

Most aquatic herbicides have undergone some toxicity testing for effects on non-target aquatic organisms, little of this testing has been conducted on early life stages of Clarias gariepinus. African catfish C. gariepinus were exposed to acute concentrations of glyphosate for 96hrs. The lethal concentration (LC ) 5O value of glyphosate was 0.295 mg l for 96h of exposure. The mean mortality perc...

Responses of growth rates and growth hormone levels of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) to stocking density

In order to estimate responses of growth rate and growth hormone of Clarias gariepinus to stocking density, fish (initial weight 30.71 ± 0.89 g) were stocked in 120-L tanks at densities of 35, 65, 95, and 125 kg/m3 for 60 days. On day 30 and 60, the fish growth rates were measured, pituitary growth hormone (GH) mRNA levels and serum GH concentrations were examined by real-time qPCR and ELISA te...
